ABOUT OUR RESEARCH
2SLGBTQ+ individuals face several barriers and challenges in gaining employment in the tech industry, which has led to their significant underrepresentation and various issues in the workplace. Research on these issues is sparse and incomplete but is vital for improving health and wellness.
To address these gaps and improve opportunities for 2SLGBTQ+ individuals interested in or working in tech in Canada, QueerTech teamed up with Dr. Robert-Paul Juster's research team at Université de Montréal and Dr. Ketra Schmitt's team at Concordia. Together, they are working to understand and address these issues through an extensive literature review and a mixed methods research study.
This project is happening in 4 phases:
- Literature Review - Published and accessible below
- Quantitative Survey - Still open for responses HERE
- Qualitative Interview - In process
- Report & Recommendations - Coming Autumn 2022
This work will help better understand hiring/employment experiences, challenges in attracting/retaining 2SLGBTQ+ individuals in tech, and how to improve these processes, program designs, service offerings, policy advice, and advocacy initiatives. It facilitates knowledge translation and the application of research to impact Canadians' lives positively.
